There's more to life than Moz, you know But not much more
morrissey's "greatest hits" tour 2007 is announced. i am living in an area where he'll be playing a handful of venues within driving distance. however, i can only afford to buy tickets here in philadelphia. tragic. the day comes and tickets are on sale. i wake up and buy my tickets only to find out there was a presale a week prior. not having a steady internet connection has never been such a curse. i am somewhat crushed that my seats wont be right up front.
less than a week and he will be playing madison square garden, i do the most logical thing and buy a pit ticket off someone. i will be up front, i will be getting on stage. moz plays the letterman show and gets a throat infection. the nyc show is canceled, along with philly and many other dates. after some stressful days he reschedules philly, but cancels nyc all together. well i do get to see him, but the dream that is being up front is gone.
the fact that i am only seeing him once and at a distance is hard enough, but not getting my $90 back for the msg ticket is just cruel. oh, but there are good times ahead. i get my $90 back and buy a general admission ticket to the atlantic city show. friday afternoon i came down with a fever and sore throat. the show is on monday. hahaha you kill me steven patrick, you kill me. i naturally just slept all day and beat this throat infection.

The Queen Is Dead / First Of The Gang To Die / You Have Killed Me / All You Need Is Me / In The Future When All's Well / Whatever Happens, I Love You / The Boy With The Thorn In His Side / Let Me Kiss You / Everyday Is Like Sunday / I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris / Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want / Irish Blood, English Heart / The National Front Disco / Disappointed / I Will See You In Far Off Places / I Just Want To See The Boy Happy / Girlfriend In A Coma / At Last I Am Born / Life Is A Pigsty / How Soon Is Now? // The Last Of The Famous International Playboys
we arrive somewhat early and i dont see as many "mozbots" as i'd thought. there are a few early 90's moz tour shirts though. very nice to see. the crowd seemed to be very mixed with all kinds of types. the venue is an amphitheater and the stage is low and has no barrier. a dream set up!
kristeen young plays while we still lurk about. as she finishes and the intermission movie plays people start standing towards the front, just behind the pit wall thing. this is when you could tell that the venue staff and some of the crowd is not familiar with a moz show. older people were asking "will all these people be standing when the concert starts?". i was called rude for standing in front of people and asked "do you plan on standing there when it starts, because my wife and i will be." i replied "no" with a smile on my face because i knew i would be up there in front of the stage.
everyone is made to go back to their seats. moz comes out and everyone rushes back up front. he opens with the queen is dead. 3rd song in he says something like "if people stand there, philadelphia will fall to it's knees, and the sheriffs will kill themselves" in reference to there being a large open area in the pit section. they start letting some people in. of course everyone tries rushing through this tiny space. i jump the wall thing and hop over like 6 rows of seats. up front, singing and crying. a truly great place to be.
most of the crowd around me were drunken rude idiots. just because you are all washed up and in your 30's doesnt give you an excuse to act like a child whos not getting their way.
mozzer does last of the famous... for his encore which is a perfect set up for stage invasions. after a few people tried and a few succeeded. i went for it and with a shove i made it. a monitor stole my shoe along the way. so with one shoe and his stage man after me i got to give him a hug and a few pats on the back. time truly slowed down during this moment.
i get on stage around the 1 minute mark. looks more like a tackle.

Panic / First Of The Gang To Die / The Youngest Was The Most Loved / All You Need Is Me / You Have Killed Me / In The Future When All's Well / Let Me Kiss You / Whatever Happens, I Love You / Girlfriend In A Coma / Everyday Is Like Sunday / Disappointed / That's How People Grow Up / The Boy With The Thorn In His Side / Irish Blood, English Heart / The National Front Disco / I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris / I Just Want To See The Boy Happy / Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want / How Soon Is Now? // The Last Of The Famous International Playboys
we arrive even earlier since it's a general admission show. this venue is in the borgota casino, a very fancy place. security is not letting anyone line up for a few hours. so everyone is milling about in the vicinity. an hour or so pass and a somewhat line is made. security is trying really hard to show authority. especially after the first few people the let go up took off running up the escalator. at that point one lady called us fans "wild savages". up the escalator to wait in another line a almost and hour. before letting us in security was giving off threats that if you go on stage you will be arrested for trespassing.
we get pretty close to the stage. only another 2 hours to go! standing through kristeen young wasnt so bad and i actually got to watch the intermission clips.
the man comes out and opens with panic. amazing. full on tears broke out. i thought this show was better than philly. he did cut out life is a pigsty though.
as he was finishing up last of the famous... the last shirt was thrown and i caught one sleeve. i held on for dear, dear life. there were only a few of us, then everyone around tried to get in on it. people started breaking it apart anyway they could. security tried jumping in and i pulled toward stage right and knocked people all over the place. what can i say. "the pressure's on, because the pleasure hasn't gone and I'm, not sorry for, for the things I've done". i came home with a good sized piece of the shirt with its two gucci cuff buttons and the scent of comme des garcons.
